Take control of your life and be your own trainer
Do you keep telling yourself you are ready for something new, a fresh start but never seem to make a move?
So many people wait for December 31 to start again, I say “don’t wait for New Year resolutions or summer beach parties take control of your well being today and watch tomorrow come alive”.
Start with single steps, make a short list in your head, don’t bother stressing yourself out with a list full of 30 things, it’s taken you this long to get here, why overwhelm yourself by trying to do too much too soon. Think about what it is that you want to achieve? Is it to fit into your favourite jeans by spring, boost your energy levels and start running again? Then write it down.
A wise man once told me (aka dad) unless you write down your dreams, goals and aspirations they will stay just that, dreams! Everything becomes real when you write it down, thanks dad.
Sometimes all it takes is a daily reminder of why we are doing what we do, placing our goals where we can visibly see them will help keep us accountable.
Change your mindset from “I really should work out today” to “I really want to work out today”. That one positive thought can change your whole attitude towards getting out there.
Everyone assumes change is going to be easy, well maybe for some it may be, but what most make decisions for change and go back on that decision at least 8-10 times before moving forward. It’s always easier to do what we already know and are used to; making changes with the unknown is the trying part. Prepare yourself as best as possible, pushing through the tough days, knowing that it’s all a matter of time before it becomes daily routine.
Whatever your goal, be it small or not so small, remember that every step is a step in the right direction for you and a healthy, fitter better you.
Find like-minded people, if you want to become a better runner, train with someone who knows how to run or join a running group. If you want to become stronger, train with someone that has experience and can show you how. Whatever it is, always challenge yourself to try and learn more, don’t try and be the smartest in the group, stay open minded always.
Overall be accountable to yourself and for yourself, revisit your goals and dreams, making yourself accountable daily by not allowing excuses to creep in when the day has not gone to plan. This is the part that I say “life happens” we are not robots, things will alter or derail from time to time, it’s how we deal with these situations that will drive results.
